Soy's Unique
Protein/Amino Acid Composition
Moreover. soy's
rich protein/amino acid profile is also unique in all of the plant kingdom. Soy contains
tryptophan, phenylalanine, lysine, threonine, methionine, leucine, isoleucine, and valine.
- all eight
amino acids that are essential for the human body. These eight specific amino acids must be ingested
from food sources. They are essential to the human body for building new tissue, repairing
injured tissue, transporting oxygen and nutrients through the bloodstream, hormone
production, enzyme production, and making antibodies to fight infection. Phenylalanine is
essential in helping maintain male sexual potency... tryptophan is essential to healthful
sleeping patterns . .. and lysine helps the body raise acetyl-L-carnitine levels which has
been shown to help stave off Alzheimer' s disease.
Soy's protein content is so
great, in fact, that the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition states, "Soy protein
can serve as a sole protein source in the adult human body." Today. the U.S.
government even recognizes soy as a protein alternative equivalent to meat.
Additionally. some soy proteins have been shown to mimic the
powerful antioxidant enzyme SOD (Super Oxide Dismutase), which is literally the body's
natural first line of defense against cell-destroying. cancer-inducing hydroxyl free
radicals. Like SOD, these proteins act to protect cells by neutralizing the superoxide
radical and converting it to hydrogen peroxide. which is then further reduced to harmless
oxygen and water. These SOD-like proteins also help reduce inflammation, aid in the
ongoing maintenance and repair of damaged tissue, reduce tissue damage in the heart,
kidneys, intestine and skin, and help protect the body against pollution, radiation and
chemical exposure.
